Poland Luxury Vacations

Experience Poland
The music of Frédéric Chopin wonderfully expresses the soul of Poland. It was inspired both by the folklore that the young prodigy discovered through the Mazurkas of the countryside, and by the cultural refinement of Warsaw, in the conservatory of music and the salons of Grand Duke Constantine, the Tsar's brother. It is all at once light-hearted and melancholic, with both the simplicity of the world of rural traditions and the lofty elegance of one of the most dazzling societies in Europe. Over the course of the centuries the country has forged from its rich and troubled history a unique Art de Vivre. It was so captivating that when Chopin left at the age of 20 he took soil with him that would later come to be mixed with that of Paris, in his grave.

Poland Attractions
Poland has a truly unique territory compared with the rest of Europe: here we find countless lakes, a desert, and animals that have survived nowhere else, such as the bison, the lynx, and the brown bear. Above all it is a great country that, despite being scarred by the tragedies of the Second World War, has an exceptional historic heritage particularly in the cities of Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw.

Best Western Premier Hotels in Poland
In Krakow, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, the ultramodern and fully equipped Best Western Premier Hotel Krakow is above all an authentic Polish hotel, evident in its architecture, its restaurant, and the design of its rooms.

Best Western Premier Art Hotel Eindhoven

The extraordinary "White Lady"

On the 1st January 1880 in Menlo Park, a small New Jersey town, a historic event as extraordinary as the first cinematic screening took place: the town's main street and library were astonishingly and instantly illuminated. The amazed witnesses of this miracle saw small glass bulbs in which glowing filaments produced a beautiful golden light. Thomas Edison's electric light bulb had just started to profoundly change the world. Soon, its production would be set up on the other side of the Atlantic, to Eindhoven in the Netherlands, by Gerrard Philips, who was incidentally a cousin of Karl Marx. The Philips business would grow over the course of the 20th century to achieve the success it knows today. The first brick workshop was replaced by a factory opened in 1931, on top of which was an enormous blue "Philips" illuminated sign, which became the emblem of the city. This factory, which was part of the adventure of the 20th century, was saved from demolition and is now considered a historic monument. It also now houses an extraordinary hotel : the Best Western Premier Art Hotel.

The hotel is above all extraordinary in its character as a place where a part of the history of the modern world and its miraculous progress was written, but also because of some of its more sombre pages in history: in July 1944, Frits Philips, Gerard's nephew, who was running the business, fled through his office window to avoid being arrested by the occupying German forces (in 1996 Israel awarded him the Yad Vashem "righteous among the nations" medal for having saved many Jews from Nazi brutality). The panoramic restaurant on the top floor of the hotel has an excellent reputation, and offers not only views over the lights of the town, but also of the world's progress in the 20th century.

The hotel is also extraordinary in its architectural individuality which gives it the appearance of a luxurious loft rather than a traditional hotel. The size of the rooms and apartments (some of which measure up to 55m² and 4 metres in height), the enormous picture windows which allow the light to flood in, and the structure of the building, which the architects decided to leave exposed, all evoke its industrial past. The creativity, the colour palette, and the quality of materials used by the designers to ensure that each room is unique, are all tasteful touches in a place primarily designed to house fully standardised activity, and above all make it captivating and completely unforgettable. The site, which was named the "White Lady", became part of a huge redevelopment project which created other distinctive spaces such as an art gallery accessed from the hotel lobby, the Grand Cafe Usine, the city library, and the Design Academy.

Finally, the Best Western Premier Art Hotel is extraordinary in the quality of amenities it offers each of its guests. The facilities not only benefit from the latest technological advances, but also from a quest for perfection in even the smallest detail. The gym is equipped to a professional level. Of course particular attention has been paid to the lighting and the result is beyond all possible expectations, combining creativity and complete anticipation of the needs of the guests wherever they are. Wasn't the first Philips slogan at the beginning of the 20th century "We have a lamp for every application"? Every element, from the shower fittings to the sofas in the rooms, via the televisions and the coffee machines, has been carefully selected to exceed the expectations of the exacting travellers visiting the hotel. While shaving, turning on a light, watching the television, listening to the radio or a CD, using the in-room iron, or enjoying a coffee from the machine, each hotel guest benefits from the technological and scientific advances developed by Philips engineers whose laboratories were within the very same walls right up until the end of the 20th century. By combining exemplary facilities with a design full of bright ideas, and often a little poetry, and by magnificently conveying its unique history, the Best Western Premier Art Hotel has without doubt been able to bring back to daily modern life something truly extraordinary in nature, despite no one today being amazed by instant light at the touch of a button. This hotel is certainly the only one in the world that could hope to do so.

Best Western Premier Hotel Montenegro

A delightful destination and a matchless base camp...

The Balkans experienced countless upheavals and conflicts during the 20th century, which largely explains why they are so little known. Some countries, like Montenegro, are an intriguing mixing-pot of extremely ancient historic and cultural roots and very recent administrative systems. This makes them most appealing, all the more so as they are now highly accessible.

The brand-new Best Western Premier Hotel Montenegro was inaugurated on September 5th 2006, just a few weeks after the official proclamation of the birth of the independent state of Montenegro. It is generally said of good hotels that they are located in town or city centres. In this case, the hotel is not only in the heart of Podgorica, but in the heart of the country, which given the size and rich heritage of Montenegro, is a fantastic asset.

Montenegro is home to some of the world's most spectacular and most generous natural landscapes. This young nation is so conscious of this asset that it was the first in the world to include the protection of the environment in its constitution. Less than an hour's drive from the Best Western Premier Hotel Montenegro are a whole host of natural wonders such as Kotor fjord (the southernmost fjord in the world), the gorges of the River Tara (second largest canyon in the world) and Lake Skadar. The beaches of the Adriatic and the ski resorts of the Dinaric Alps are also close enough for you to be able to go skiing and swimming in the same summer's day!

One of the hotel's highlights is its terrace, where, shaded by huge parasols, you can relax in the comfort of armchairs and, basking in the mild Mediterranean climate, savour the scent of the nearby countryside, even though you're in the heart of the capital. In the distance, you can see the vineyards that surround the city and which produce Vranac, a full-bodied, pleasant red wine of renown that is ideal with tasty red meat. The hotel's excellent restaurant offers a fine selection of the region's rich gastronomic traditions and wines in a mouth-watering blend of Mediterranean and regional alpine influences.

Due to its youth, the hotel offers an exemplary quality of equipment in a setting devoid of any trace of ageing. The guestrooms, just as the rest of the hotel, are all generously proportioned and furnished and fitted with high-quality materials, in particular the wood and marble in which the region is particularly rich.

The Best Western Premier Hotel Montenegro, perhaps the best hotel in the country, is an ideal destination to relax and resource the batteries of weary urbanites. It also, and above all, makes an ideal base camp for excursions to the region's countless natural and historic wonders.

Netherlands Luxury hotels

Experience Netherlands
The Netherlands stand out for their geography which puts a quarter of the country below sea level and haslandscapes of dykes and polders, punctuated by the omnipresent silhouettes of windmills. But the traveller will above all take away the overwhelming memory of its cities, unique in appearance thanks to their canals and architecture, and the treasures in their museums. The history which has attracted the armies and people of Europe in these plains, and the extraordinary daring of its traders and sailors, explain how, over the centuries, the Netherlands have developed an extremely rich identity, evident today in its exceptional heritage.

Netherlands Attractions
The motto of the Netherlands, "I will maintain", shows the strength of character that would have been needed to conquer and then protect the country from the sea, and which would also have allowed the Dutch to build a remarkable cultural heritage. Amsterdam, and its network of concentric canals lined with typical gable-fronted houses, is home to exceptional museums: the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum, and the Van Gogh Museum. Rotterdam and its Maritime Museum, and The Hague, whose Mauritshuis exhibits the works of Vermeer and Rembrandt, are also worth visiting for their architectural and historical aspects...as are Utrecht, Delft and indeed Eindhoven, which is part of the adventure of the 20th century.

Premier Netherlands Hotels
The Best Western Premier Art Hotel in Eindhoven is emblematic of the success of the city in the 20th century. Part of an extremely stylish renovation of a former Philips factory, whose structure it highlights, it provides each of its guests with particularly generous proportions and impeccable facilities.

Best Western Premier Hotel Nagasaki

Devoted to the eternally renewed beauty of cherry blossom

The Japanese can genuinely be said to venerate the cherry tree, which they call Sakura. The tree's singularity stems from the fact that its flowers blossom far before the leaves appear, giving the impression of an immaculate white tree, and when the petals begin to fall, the blossom that has not yet wilted cloaks the surrounding meadows in a beautiful white mantle. This botanic characteristic explains why the cherry tree is regarded as a symbol of beauty and also of the evanescent quality of beauty. Every year, the National Weather Board and the entire population track the "sakura zensen" (cherry blossom front) at the same time as the weather forecast. The first trees to blossom are in Okinawa in January and the "front" progresses gradually northwards. The Japanese eagerly await this brief moment when they can "contemplate the blossom" in the country's parks, altars and temples.

The "front" reaches Nagasaki around March. Here, the 1000 cherry trees, planted by the doctor and writer Takashi Nagai on the hillside of the devastated cathedral in the wake of the atomic bomb, are steeped in symbolism. From the top of its 15 floors in the heart of the city, the Best Western Premier Nagasaki Hotel boasts one of the finest views of the spring hillsides decked in blossom and of the stunning coastline. Japan is indeed truly a land where daily life takes on an aesthetic quality, a vision the hotel generously shares with its guests.

In Japanese Art de Vivre, one word sums up a very subtle aesthetic ideal: "iki". It is a complex concept, whose refinement extends equally to clothing, architecture and people and the Best Western Premier Nagasaki Hotel eminently embodies this ideal by its prevailing genuine natural elegance. One of the most remarkable traits of this characteristically "iki" hotel, from the lobby to the last bathroom, the terraces to the bar or from the Westernised to the most Japanese spaces, is the pursuit of harmony and balance in the design. The real aesthetic feat accomplished by the hotel's designers and architects is, paradoxically perhaps to our Western minds, the invisible and intangible nature with which they have applied this ideal, whose supreme elegance lies precisely in its inconspicuous simplicity. Contemplating the cherry blossom is as "iki" as are the brown marble and superb cream vault in the lobby. In this lobby moreover, subtle details voluntarily break up the symmetry, illustrated by an eccentric table graced with an exuberant flower arrangement or chaotic splashes of light. For "iki" is the contrary of a quest for perfection, whose vain crusade demands an application, concentration and methodology that are the antithesis of this ideal. "Iki" is embodied rather by spontaneity, a certain nonchalance and the freedom of human beings who know that perfection is not of this world and that cherry blossom will fade sooner or later.

Such is the Best Western Premier Nagasaki Hotel, supremely elegant down to the humility with which it expresses the transient nature of beauty. The result is a unique experience in an exquisitely refined environment that is also deeply humane. The hotel, accustomed to welcoming prominent international figures, does not compromise with international standards of comfort. Always one step ahead of its guests' needs, it offers, for example, a choice between an authentic Japanese decor and a Western setting for foreign visitors. Both are equally consummately deployed, but neither is imposed. The restaurants are equally enticing, offering a first-class repertory of international culinary classics and Japanese cuisine whose inimitable flavour, here more than elsewhere on earth, is the result of incomparably fresh ingredients and ancestral techniques. The flawlessly appointed guestrooms command magnificent views of the city and its stunning landscape. The light fittings for example can be modulated to suit the changing moods of guests. Plush and lavishly fitted out down to the tiniest detail, they are also conscientiously free of superfluous clutter so that guests can truly make themselves at home. Just another illustration of the Best Western Premier Nagasaki Hotel's commitment to "iki".

Best Western Premier Hotel Sant'Elena

Blessed peace in Venice...

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Venice lies a precious gem. The Best Western Premier Hotel Sant'Elena sits on the site of a convent that used to belong to the Sisters of Mantellate. The religious order, which includes nuns devoted entirely to prayer, knows a thing or two about tranquillity.

The hotel's heritage of serenity continues to make its presence felt today. When you enter through the front door you pass under two angels holding the emblem of the order (the letters S and M for Servants of Mary). The church "Servi di Maria" still remains next to the hotel. Some members of the staff were students here, when the convent was an academy. In the centre of the hotel, the cloister that used to welcome the sisters in quiet reflection has been replaced by a superb courtyard garden. The austerity of the cloister has been replaced by quiet elegance. It is the perfect place to wind down over a glass of Spritz, a typically Venetian cocktail, after a long day exploring the city's historic streets, churches and canals.

From your seat in your garden you can see the restaurant, Valentine's. Reserved for guests, it offers traditional Venetian cuisine with strong Mediterranean influences. Cast your eyes around a little more and you will see that some of the guest rooms overlook the courtyard. All the rooms offer wonderful views, whether of the garden, the lagoon or monuments such as the Church of the Salute.

Throughout the hotel, Italian elegance with modern design mixes harmoniously with the convent's original architecture. Take a moment to admire the pure lines of the hotel's open spaces, with their understated fabrics and furnishings. Or descend to the lobby on the central spiral staircase with its smooth marble steps.

The hotel takes its name from the Isola di Sant'Elena, the island on which it is located. Situated on the eastern shore of the lagoon, the island is one of the city's most verdant and serene districts. It is where many of the city's inhabitants live, which gives it a distinctly authentic and unhurried feel. Wandering to the hotel through the narrow calli, you will be treated to the tolling of the bells of San Marco. The crowds, however, are nowhere to be seen.

This makes it easy to forget that you are just a short walk from the Piazza San Marco or a quick Vaporetto ride from the glassblowers of Murano. The walk into the heart of Venice takes you along the Riva degli Schiavoni, one of the city's most picturesque promenades. Leave early and watch the sun rise over the city, before the crowds appear.

The Best Western Premier Hotel Sant'Elena is also just a stone's throw from the Parco delle Rimembranze gardens, home to the pavilions of the Venice Biennale, the world's most prestigious contemporary art exhibition. In fact, it is the closest hotel to the Biennale's main venue, which is only fitting since the Best Western Premier Hotel Sant'Elena is as much a sanctuary from the ordinary as the Biennale is as a celebration of the extraordinary.

Best Western Premier Hotel Milton

An extraordinary scenery in Federico Fellini's eternal Italy...

In all of Federico Fellini's films, there are reminiscences from his childhood in Rimini that have often been said to be inexhaustible because they were largely invented. Invented, inspired or actually experienced, the life of the great movie director, enlightened by the wonderful music of his friend Nino Rota, looks very much like his home town of Rimini: a fascinating beach resort with a thriving nightlife celebrating the dolce vita, co-existing with an ageless slow-going ancient Roman town. Perhaps, the uniqueness of Rimini and the Best Western Premier Hotel Milton, lies in the peculiar authenticity of the people who, like Fellini in his movies, made it similar to their dreams, souvenirs and expectations.

Ermete Novelli, the famous fin de siècle Italian actor and playwright, owned the building in which the hotel welcomes its guests today and definitely was one of those very special characters, just as, in the 60s, the artist/painter/writer, who gave the hotel its current name in honour of the eponymous English writer.

Rimini actually mixes the wonders of the dolce vita together with rich remnants of its Roman and medieval history. With more than 32 kilometres of pristine sand and dozens of nightclubs, it is the most popular resort on the Adriatic. It attracts sun worshippers and partygoers from around the world … who may as well visit the Arch of Augustus, Tiberius's Bridge and the Amphitheatre!

The best place to start exploring both sides of life in Rimini is the Best Western Premier Hotel Milton. Tucked away in a private garden on a quiet street just a few steps from the beach, its eccentric pink façade with faux Byzantine windows rises up like a wedding cake.

In the privacy of the garden, the terrace of the Best Western Premier Hotel Milton, with its tables and flowers, invites you to a glass of wine. The sounds of the sea and the beachgoers are barely audible. Flowers greet you at every turn, from the planters on the terrace, to the magnificent arrangement in the lobby and the paintings on the walls. Soft pastels contrast with rich hardwood floors. The rich reds of the cosy salon stand out against the bright and clear atmosphere of the hotel's bar. Behind each white door of the guest rooms, is a spacious place, tastefully decorated with red floral furnishings with golden accents, and proposing a balcony from which you can admire the sea.

Get up early and take a relaxing stroll on the beach as you watch the colourful fishing boats head out to sea. Explore the town's many street markets, including the main market held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings in the Piazza Cavour, located in the Old Town. You might recognize the Piazza Cavour and the Cinema Fulgor on the Corso d'Augusto that leads into the Piazza, as settings of Fellini's Amarcord. You will for sure enjoy the unique atmosphere that wells from this marvellous place.

Piazza Cavour is the centre of daily life for people who live in Rimini. It is surrounded by buildings that symbolize the Italian art de vivre: shops and cafès, beautiful architecture of medieval palaces, the majestic Neo-Classical Teatro Comunale, inaugurated by Giuseppe Verdi in 1857 and the old fish market (it houses an enormous marble table, which was used to sell the fish). The renovation of the Old Town, with its pedestrian zones, cobbled streets, squares and elegant shops, is the best example of Rimini's recent revival. The cultural offering is vast. Discover the Fontana della Pigna on the Piazza Cavour, the gorgeous frescos of the 13th century San Giovanni Evangelista church, the Gothic interior of the Malatesta Temple.

Later in the day be sure to head to any of the fantastic restaurants, including the hotel's, which is considered one of the best tables in town. And be sure to try canocchia, a thin transparent crustacean that is a local delicacy. Legend has it that it was also the nickname given to Federico Fellini because he was so skinny.

Best Western Premier Hotel Galileo Padova

An Art de Vivre based on beauty, intelligence and tolerance

Galileo liked to describe his 18 years spent teaching applied mechanics, astronomy and military architecture at the University of Padua as the greatest of his life. That's because it is here that he found love with a young Venetian woman, as well as an environment that worshipped beauty, intelligence and tolerance, and which, over several centuries, gave rise to the most significant intellectual, scientific and artistic movements in history. In Padua, Galileo benefited from the generosity of Venice, and the renowned glass industry, to develop his telescopes and his revolutionary theories. Andreas Vasalius, one of the greatest anatomists in history literally reinvented medicine here. The anatomical theatre over which he presided is a genuine architectural monument whose lines are reminiscent of a drawing of an eye. The frescoes created by Giotto in the Scrovegni Chapel are the foundations of the Renaissance. The University of Padua is also the first to have awarded a degree to a woman: her name was Elena Lucrezia Piscopia and she received her Philosophy degree in 1678.

The traveller that stays at the Best Western Premier Hotel Galileo Padova today in order to walk the streets of Padua, visit its monuments, admire its artistic treasures, or to sit in the extraordinary Pedrocchi cafe, which has welcomed Lord Byron, Stendhal and Dario Fo, is a privileged witness to the humanism, to which the city has contributed perhaps more than any other. Padua is certainly one of the melting pots of the time that created the Modern Man by placing him at the centre of the universe and making him master of his own destiny. The Statue of Gattamelata erected by Donatello in front of the Basilica of Saint Anthony (in front of rather than inside) is not only one of the most beautiful equestrian statues in existence, but also a symbol of this human liberty: for the first time the statue was no longer religious, but was personal. It was no longer confined and justified by the walls of the church and their shadow, but displayed in the middle of the square in broad daylight. The artist thus expressed, more than ever, his own freedom.

The Best Western Premier Hotel Galileo Padova, while perfectly contemporary, is in harmony with the Art de Vivre and the culture of the city. It offers a mix of sober and subtle classicism that gives way to playful colours in the many paintings on display. The canvases are signed by Giuseppe Boaretto, a Paduan artist (who happens to be the father of the hotel owners) who translates his fascination for colour and its power of expression into compositions with real purity. The facade is structured around the fully glazed stairwell in which the lighting changes colour rhythmically.

The rooms contribute to this light and joyful quality of life with their generosity of space, including the bathrooms, which are unpretentious and where an abundance of light streams in. The windows open out onto beautiful views of the wooded banks of the canal and, from the 6th floor, of the city rooftops, from which rise the steeples and domes of the Basilica of Saint Anthony. Because Padua is also a city of water, the hotel offers, around its superb swimming pool, the Cignus Spa, a health and fitness complex including sound, light and water in various forms: such as the gentle sensations of tropical rain, the energy of integrated whirlpools, and the beneficial warmth of the sauna. While relaxing in the elegant comfort of the solarium it is easy to forget that one is just a few steps from a city so rich in seduction and temptation.

The Best Western Premier Hotel Galileo Padova was built on the south bank of the "Riviera del Brenta", the canal that has linked Padua and Venice since the 16th century. A few steps away are the Porta del Portello and the pier for boats heading to Venice. This journey is an unforgettable way of exploring the City of the Doges, while admiring some of the villas built by its great riches in the surrounding countryside. Just like the Best Western Premier Hotel Galileo Padova, they championed an extremely rich Art de Vivre which combined joy and elegance with work, art, science and the pleasures of all five senses.

An Art de Vivre founded on time, generosity and authenticity

The finest delicacies are often the result of years of patience and authentic details that suffer no compromise. For example, it can take up to 50 years of maturation and evaporation in a series of oak, cherry, chestnut, wild cherry and finally ash barrels to produce just a few teaspoonfuls of balsamic vinegar from the must of Trebbiano grapes. The essences of the different woods are what give this extraordinary liquid its characteristic flavour, a process that took several centuries to master and perfect.
Similarly it takes between 24 and 48 months for Parmesan cheese to reach maturity, after of course having taken the time to meticulously collect the milk from cows that graze on the grass and hay of the meadows of Emilia Romagna without which the cheese would not have its inimitable flavour. Once again, it took centuries to develop this cottage industry craft that has never been formalised but which is nonetheless incredibly refined and sophisticated, requiring in particular that one of the two milkings from which the cheese is made, the evening one, be left to rest over night in shallow tanks.

Parmesan and balsamic vinegar may well be the best ambassadors of Italy's distinctive art de vivre. However nowhere else in the world than in their home region of Emilia Romagna, do they have such a distinctive flavour. This is perhaps due to the region's particularly mild sunlight that bathes the ancient stones of its houses, to its sweet-natured inhabitants and their musical language or to the amazingly simple way everything becomes beautiful and harmonious. While it might be impossible to explain this mystery, it can certainly be felt and nowhere better than in the region's distinctive flair for life and authentic pleasures.

The soul of this region in the heart of Italy is also clearly discernible in the Best Western Premier Hotel Classic. Although the establishment's walls are recent, its architecture and interior decoration are nonetheless totally emblematic of the region, illustrated by the profusion of regional materials, in particular the stone floors and the wooden furniture. All the more so as Reggio Emilia knows more than any other city how much local essences bestow character and soul to barrels of vinegar, furniture and life in general… The open faces and bright eyes of the hotel's personnel reflect the personal care and attention they lavish on their guests, in a spirit far removed from any business plan. The city is famous all over the world for its progressive educational ideology, founded after the war and the downfall of fascism. This approach is based on the belief that children should be able to express themselves in all imaginable ways, to learn not only from books but also by using their five senses, and should be able to decide by themselves, at least in part, what they learn. The consequence is all-rounded children that grow up to be responsible adults in harmony with their environment and their roots. It also provides another clue as to why the quality of life enjoyed by the town of the Best Western Premier Hotel Classic is in a class quite of its own.

As its name suggests, the Best Western Premier Hotel Classic offers the "classic" comfort and rank of a world-class hotel, illustrated by flawless superior comfort, matchless technical fittings and fixtures and impeccable service in all circumstances. However, as is the case of all Premier category hotels, it is also endowed with that extra quality so hard to define and yet so easy to recognise and appreciate: the special charm of a region that has given the world not only the cheese and vinegar mentioned above, but also Ferrari, faïence, Lambrusco, Ducati and Lamborghini…

Best Western Premier Hotel Laurus

The keys to the "City of Stone"...

Florence is a city that takes some deciphering. Perhaps because of its strong medieval character, it can be hard for travellers to get under the city's skin. Tellingly, the American writer Mary McCarthy called it the "City of Stone". The city's neighbourhoods do not have official names. Locals refer to them by the name of the local church. Residential and business addresses use different numbering systems. The city centre is dense, the streets are narrow. At the same time, the city was the source of inspiration to dozens of history's most important artists. No wonder then that the Latin name given to the city by the Romans, Florentina, means "let them flourish". So how can you get behind the city's stony exterior and tap into the city's energy?

The Best Western Premier Hotel Laurus is the place to start. Easy walking distance from Florence's central train station, it was built in the late 19th century on the site of a convent, facing the Santa Maria Maggiore, the city's first cathedral dating from the 10th century. The hotel probably takes its name from the grove of Laurus trees that used to grow near the convent. All the monuments of the centre of Florence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are within a stone's throw of the hotel's prime location.

From the café on the mezzanine, you are treated to a wonderful view of the cathedral's façade as it changes colour throughout the day with the movement of the Tuscan sun. Enjoy a cappuccino and a scrumptious pastry while planning your day.

Renovated in 2004, the hotel features a modern comfortable environment and warm hospitality. The hotel staff can help you discover the best that Florence has to offer - and avoid the throngs of tourists. They can recommend small family-run restaurants where the locals go for authentic Florentine cooking, such as Pappa al Pomodoro, Ribollita and Pecorino di Pienza cheese. They are also there to help you discover the fine shopping on the Via dei Calzaiuoli and Via De' Tornabuoni, not to mention the city's many historical gems and artistic treasures.

As a matter of fact, art is never far away from the Best Western Premier Hotel Laurus. The hotel's owner is a local patron of the arts (since Laurent de Medici, the tradition of art patroning has brought very rich contributions from Florence). In 2006 he transformed the cinema next to the hotel into an auditorium that regularly hosts master classes and concerts by young musicians. It also regularly welcomes art exhibits.

The generous, uncluttered rooms are decorated in modern Italian style, with rich hardwood floors and light colour schemes. Ask for a room on one of the upper floors for a stunning view overlooking the rooftops of the Centro Storico and the rolling hills in the distance beyond.

The jewel in the hotel's crown, however, is the rooftop terrace. In the morning, enjoy a copious breakfast buffet while taking in the breathtaking view of the Duomo. In the evening, before heading out to dinner at one of the excellent restaurants nearby, unwind over a glass of wine and traditional Florentine appetizers while marvelling at the city's roofline at sunset. It is a once in a lifetime view only available to hotel guests. The lantern of the Duomo is one of the last and one of the first parts of the city to be touched by sun rays. In 1475, though he was 78 years old, Toscanelli climbed the 463 steps of the Duomo straircase so as to install at its top a bronze plaque pierced with little holes and thus created the biggest and most precise sundial of the time. Officially, he wanted to reach a more accurate date for Easter but he will as well change all the knowledge about equinoxes and solstices and doing so will bring extraordinary progresses into astronomical navigation without which Christopher Colombus might not have succeeded.

In a city as steeped in history and art, teeming with visitors, the key to a relaxing, inspiring stay is a hotel unlocking the true nature of the destination, while protecting you. Welcome to the Best Western Premier Hotel Laurus.

Best Western Premier Hotel Globus City

Everlasting Italian classicism

Forli is one of those perhaps lesser-known Italian towns, whose quality of life immediately makes the visitor feel at home. Although inaugurated in 2000, the Best Western Premier Hotel Globus City is very similar to its city. It has the same Romagnol roots and the same timeless elegance as Forli, particularly in the portrait presented by the characteristic Piazza Saffi and its picturesque facades, which depict an architectural panorama several centuries old.

The hotel is home to several highly distinctive areas, each of which however conveys the same exclusive impression by an atmosphere that is quite unique.

The lobby is classically noble in style with its wooden reception counter, clusters of splendid round armchairs and lavish rugs and columns. It is the sort of place that endows the most everyday activity, like reading a newspaper while waiting for an appointment, with distinctive elegance. Beautifully showcased ornaments and artwork add a restrained final touch.

The bar features a magnificent counter whose curves are as pleasing to the eye as they are masterful, echoed by the ceiling carvings and the motif on the floor, as if to set it apart. As a result, a delicious espresso acquires a quite unforgettable flavour, transporting us to another world.

The I Meridiani restaurant is listed in the Michelin Guide. It provides a memorable occasion to sample Italian cuisine whose tempting simplicity has taken centuries to perfect; characteristic Sangiovese wines, whose distinctive bouquet reveals violet notes and whose ruby red robe is deep and intense; loaves of piadina flatbread baked on griddles over flames, served piping hot to release the subtle aroma of their flour; finely sliced parmesan that melts in the mouth; fresh pasta of mouth-watering delicacy…

Each guestroom of the Best Western Premier Hotel Globus City is furnished in a plush bourgeois style and the cosy charm and classic comfort of its marble bathrooms, parquet floors, classical art are particularly admirable. Some of the guestrooms command fine views of the hilly Romagnol countryside.

In addition to an appealing choice of ambience, the hotel magnificently upholds its rank as a top-class establishment through its harmonious noble interior decoration, depicted by handsome Carrara marble floors, Swarovski light fixtures and precious wooden furniture. The initial favourable impression conveyed by the stately lobby of the Best Western Premier Hotel Globus City is majestically sustained throughout your sojourn.

Best Western Premier Hotel Monza e Brianza Palace

Countach!

Countach is an exclamation in a Northern Italian dialect which expresses admiration and surprise. And this is how the famous designer Bertone would have welcomed the Lamborghini he designed when he saw it on the road for the first time. The prototype that would become a legend had just found its name. The Italian passion for the automobile, in which they combine, as in everything, all of their design skills, their taste and their ingenuity, is well-known. They take as much care over the design of their pasta as they do their bodywork, creating cars with lines as elegant as the clothes they wear, and savouring driving like they would a plate of spaghetti. The province of Milan, which produced Ettore Buggati and is home to the Monza race track, helps to carry on this passion. Many engineers, designers and parts manufacturers are based here and have furthered the love affair with the automobile, particularly the Lucas Carello factory based in the commune of Cinisello Balsamo, which manufactured car headlights and has just been converted into a superb 4-star hotel: the Best Western Premier Monza e Brianza Palace.

The hotel has uncompromisingly retained its industrial architecture but never loses the right to call itself a "Palace". The dimensions and lines, designed to be functional and ergonomic, bring a unique atmosphere to this bright and spacious building. The result is solidly built public spaces, punctuated by large picture windows, spectacularly high ceilings and lines allowing long open views. The ash brown ("cenere" in Italian) of the facade is typical of the landscape of the region and is the origin of the name Cinisello. The hotel is also blessed with a certain elegance that captivates its guests, perhaps because it has retained the simplicity of the land on which it stands. Outside, as well as inside, materials such as the brushed metal, the wood, and the varnished concrete carry on, through their unique design, the industrial purpose of the building. The materials were specifically chosen to optimise thermal insulation. In the same way, the sound insulation was specially reinforced to improve comfort. The guestrooms are also large spaces where the brown colour scheme adds to the comfort. From the wooden flooring and the natural light from the large picture windows, creating a sense of space, to the ample armchairs and the complete soundproofing, the rooms create an extremely pleasant impression of health and well-being.

Despite its industrial origins reflected in the simple design, the Best Western Premier Monza e Brianza Palace never abandons its Italian Art de Vivre. After all, Milan and its fashion boutiques are close by, as are Lake Como and the mountains of Lecco, which cut into the horizon. Casignolo, the hotel restaurant run by the Chef Marco Rossoni, pays tribute to the cuisine and flavours of Lombardy. It takes its name simply from the former name for thisregion, which was home to a vast farm typical of ancient rural Italy in that it centred around a central square with families working in the fields as part of a real community. And finally, for its guests' complete well-being, the hotel provides a gym, jacuzzi and spa, all brilliantly designed and a pleasure to use.

Travellers visiting the Best Western Premier Monza e Brianza Palace very rarely master Italian dialects. Yet, having probably dreamt of this car so emblematic of Italian passion, they know the name "Countach" which is so appropriate for this beautiful hotel: Countach!

Best Western Premier Hotel Cappello D'Oro

Stay in the heart of a city with two souls...

Bergamo is two cities in one. Most tourists rush through the lower town, the Città Bassa, on their way to the splendid Città Alta or upper town. But discerning travellers in search of a truly authentic experience take the time to appreciate the lively atmosphere of the Città Bassa.

The heart of the lower town is the Sentierone, the central piazza. And just around the corner sits the Best Western Premier Hotel Cappello d'Oro, with its elegant ochre façade. The hotel has been a landmark of the Città Bassa since the 19th century. Originally a restaurant and inn, it is located right next to what was called the Porta Nuova, the main entrance to the city. The access used to be closed at 10:00 PM each night which was pointed out by the 100 bell strokes that can still be heard today at the very same time. Porters would sit outside the inn, waiting to transport people or goods up to the Città Alta for a fee. The porters wore yellow caps, "Cappello d'Oro", from which the hotel gets its name.

Its prime location in the heart of the thriving Città Bassa makes the Best Western Premier Hotel Cappello d'Oro a popular stopover. Situated halfway between the train station and the funicular to the upper town, the Best Western Premier Hotel Cappello d'Oro is incredibly convenient.

The hotel's tradition of Italian hospitality is present at every moment. The attentive staff and the arrangements of fresh flowers welcome you as you enter the sleek reception area. You are immediately greeted by a combination of old-world charm and modern efficiency, as witnessed by the smooth wooden curves of the reception desk and the elegant Italian marble floors. Around each corner are interesting works of art. There are sculptures, including figures by Gianni Remuzzi, as well as paintings by Galvani and from the Caravaggio school.

Renovated in 2001, the hotel's bright, clean design of the public spaces extends into the hotel's restaurant and its rooms. As you would expect in Italy, the restaurant has a long history of quality food. Before becoming part of the hotel, the Del Moro restaurant was owned by Domenico Ruggeri, aka Barbisù, who invented the famous Carello dei Bolliti, a regional speciality of boiled beef in a salsa verde. Other dishes include Casoncelli, the signature pasta dish of Bergamo, and regional produce, such as polenta and salami.

The splendid buffet breakfast is served in the classically appointed dining area, complete with a fireplace and original artwork displayed in gilded frames. Relax on the La Corte terrace café with a glass of red or white Valcalepio, the wine grown to the east of Bergamo. The quiet rooms are the epitome of comfort, with their high ceilings, tall windows and generous proportions.

Step out the front door and you will find yourself in a lively shopping district frequented by locals. The Sentierone piazza, with its melange of architectural styles, gardens and cafés, is a lively example of modern Italian living. Art lovers will be stupefied by the amazing collection of paintings housed in the Galleria dell'Accademia Carrara, which isn't far from the hotel. Connoisseurs of classical music, opera and theatre will enjoy the performances held at the Teatro Donizetti, native of Bergamo.

Just a few steps away from the hotel is the funicular, which will carry you up to the architectural splendour of the Città Alta. At the heart of the old town are two adjoining squares, the Piazza Vecchia and the Piazza del Duomo. The mix of medieval and Renaissance architecture that characterizes the Piazzas inspired Stendhal to call the heart of old Bergamo "the most beautiful place on earth." Surrounded by 16th century ramparts and perched on a verdant hill, the Città Alta offers magnificent vistas overlooking the plains below.

Located in the heart of this bastion of culture, the Best Western Premier Hotel Cappello d'Oro offers you the best of the dual soul of Bergamo.

BEST WESTERN PREMIER Academy Plaza Hotel

A hundred thousand welcomes!

Key moments, also known as twists of fate, occur as much in the life of buildings as in that of human beings. That of the BEST WESTERN PREMIER Academy Plaza took place one morning in 1998 when Joe Comerford, the establishment's new owner, was waiting for the builders who were going to start work on the site that he had just bought with the intention of converting it into a block of flats. As the first lorries were manoeuvring in front of the hotel, Jo suddenly had a flash of inspiration and decided to take a closer look at the neighbourhood.

First he took a step back and looked at the premises' brick and stone façade that blends in so admirably with its environment. He then took a stroll down O'Connell Street just a few steps away. This street, one of the widest in Europe, is Dublin's most emblematic thoroughfare. Since the 19th century, it has witnessed many of the clashes that have marked Ireland's troubled history, among which includes the 1913 Lockout, the Easter Rising in 1916, the Irish Civil War in 1922 and the destruction of the Nelson Pillar in 1966. Some of the avenue's statues and the façade of the General Post Office still bear the traces of gunshot dating back to the events of 1916. Although its architecture suffered greatly after the terrible famine of 1840, in the early 20th century it underwent a certain splendid renaissance. To this day, O'Connell Street remains rich in symbols of Ireland's way of life, beginning with the St Patrick's Day Parade that never fails to take place here every year. On his way down, Joe Comerford also paused to admire the traditional pub signs that adorn the southern half of the street at the end of which stands O'Connell Bridge, whose claim to fame is that it as wide as it is long! Nowhere else on earth do these pubs continue to pay such tribute to their nation's hospitable character, generously sharing age-old traditions with international visitors: they can serve up to 12 sorts of ham, 10 types of raisins, 10 sorts of lime cordial and an untold variety of cakes and beers, all of which in an atmosphere that is quite unique in the world.

At that moment, Joe Comerford decided to turn his building into a living, genuinely authentic hotel, which would delve equally into Ireland's deep roots as into the country's ability to embrace the modern world and era with open arms. Joe Comerford preserved the establishment's characteristic façade, whose distinctive style anchors it so well into the city. He nonetheless and somewhat mischievously set about surprising guests by a distinctive interior decoration. While it is indeed indisputable that the Best Western Premier Academy Plaza Hotel is one of the city's most unusual establishment's, it is equally true that the establishment has by no means forgone impeccable good taste or 4-star comfort. It took Joe Comerford many years to achieve a truly unique blend that mixes the Irish way of life with architectural features picked up from his travels round the world. The lobby's elegant décor, for example, was inspired by a Shanghai hotel, prompting the owner to order marble and woodwork from the same suppliers. The hotel's two restaurants, each of which boasts its own distinctive character, are equally renowned for the quality of their décor and menu. Oscar's is adorned with spectacular chandeliers and red sofas making an unusual statement that is both bistro and refined. The Abacus, whose menu devoted to Asian culinary traditions is acclaimed by some of the country's most eminent food critics, features a stylish setting worthy of Asia's noble and inventive legacy. Sir Harry's Bar that has long contributed to the establishment's enviable reputation extends an invitation to travel. One of its walls is adorned with nearly 600 light bulbs reproducing a star-studded sky. On the bridge of this vessel, John Mulloy, a well-known figure in the trade, warmly hails guests with Ireland's traditional "Cead Mile Failte" (literally "one hundred thousand welcomes"!), flourishing a menu as rich as it is characteristic.

Nowadays, O'Connell Street is perhaps more beautiful than ever. In its centre stands the Spire (an amazing 120-metre-high spire that is the world's tallest sculpture), further enhanced by major rehabilitation and restoration work carried out by the city in recent years. In this context, the BEST WESTERN PREMIER Academy Plaza Hotel blossoms splendidly in an environment that is as rich as it is authentic and on which Joe Comerford was undoubtedly a hundred thousand times right to bet upon in 1998.

Best Western Premier Solo

The elegance and promise of "Sido Mukti" batik

In Solo, for a marriage proposal according to tradition, the suitor wears a garment made from a batik whose pattern, known as Manah, expresses determination and conviction, while the betrothed wears a batik whose pattern, known as Rante, evokes the unbreakable strength of a chain. These fabrics document numerous family and social events to such an extent that some are forbidden outside the royal circle. Their technique and patterns are a product of traditional craftsmanship and a culture that have disappeared over time and which reach in Java, from where they originate, a level of refinement and sophistication unequalled elsewhere. This craftsmanship known as the ‘resist' technique requires infinite patience; it consist of covering the fabric with wax then applying the colours one by one in the precise positions of the desired shapes and patterns, where the wax has previously soaked into the cloth.

It is clear that in Solo, as elsewhere and more often than one might think, traditions survive through many rituals and symbols despite globalisation, because they have not lost their significance and are still part of the Art de Vivre. In the same way, the Best Western Premier Hotel Solo combines, with skill and elegance, the best of modern comfort and a captivating Javanese identity. What is more, the hotel is situated at the heart of the city's business district and just a few steps from the Kraton, the ancient palaces of Surakarta, which are both royal palaces and crucibles where some of the most refined traditions of an ancient Art de Vivre were born and are now carefully upheld. One would hardly be surprised then that the architect of the Best Western Premier Hotel Solo chose to decorate the facade of the building with an elegant traditional batik motif called "Sido Mukti" which represents the wish for long-lasting happiness and prosperity... The red-brown metal decoration is enhanced by a belt of blue glass to stunning effect, particularly when the building is illuminated after dark.

Inside, the setting makes use of the most luxurious and elegant elements of the Indonesian Art de Vivre; the ornate mirrors in the lift, the decor in the restaurant, the exotic materials the bedroom doors are made out of, the quality of the dark marble and the panelling, and one of the most beautiful emblems of the hotel, the granite-top reception with its copper front worked with the delicateness of lace.

Yet the Best Western Premier Hotel Solo is rooted firmly in the 21st century and offers facilities of the highest standard in order to meet the demands of an international clientele. The original purpose of the building was to accommodate a bank, of which the hotel has retained some of the features as well as the plush character and discreet atmosphere. The magnificently decorated and furnished rooms are exceptionally large and bright. They all offer beautiful views over the tops of the Merbatu, Merapi and Lawu mountains. On the top floor, the sports and well-being facilities and the pool have a rare quality and faultless charm. Buwana...My Spa, the spa and treatment centre, is worth a special mention for its ability to adapt each treatment offered to the needs and demands of each of its visitors.

Many travellers are touched by the calm and serenity of Java. The island, one of the most densely populated in the world, has retained an Art de Vivre based on balance between the past and the future, and harmony between its extremely varied influences. The Best Western Premier Hotel Solo is a worthy representative of this wisdom.

Best Western Premier Hotel Parlament

A bridge between the ancient soul of Hungary and modernity...

If one were to choose a single word to best depict the city of Budapest, it would have to be "bridge". Indeed, the Hungarian capital is the result of the unification in 1873 of the towns of Buda and Pest, located on either side of the Danube. For over a thousand years, it has been at the crossroads of Western and Eastern cultures. Turkish bath rituals and their Ottoman-inspired architecture illustrate the persisting influence of the Orient in the town. Most of the edifices built after the 1873 unification are of neoclassical inspiration and bear witness to the confidence felt by the Hungarian middle classes in their future and their nation's values. Among these, the Best Western Premier Hotel Parlament, built in 1892, is a splendid example of the Neo-Gothic style, also exemplified by the nearby Houses of Parliament.

The hotel miraculously escaped the terrible destruction wreaked by the Second World War that left three-quarters of Budapest in ruins. It too is worthy of the term "bridge", by its successful marriage of 19th century architectural traditions and resolutely contemporary interior decoration. The building's rehabilitation is a masterpiece of skill and good taste, as the facade illustrates, today adorned with the sumptuous stucco embellishments of its origins.

The interior decoration is also an inspiring example of impeccable good taste, depicted by the choice of beautiful, noble materials. The generous proportions, characteristic vaulted lobby and the mosaics in the Internet corner are all original. Elsewhere, the stamp of the hotel's talented designers can be seen throughout this outstandingly elegant and peaceful establishment. Light, cleverly relayed and reflected by judiciously positioned mirrors, floods in from a huge conservatory whose mezzanine level leads to a lounge bar, breakfast room and library corner. The latter is particularly appreciated for its quiet, cosy comfort. From the mezzanine, gaze down on the tables laid for breakfast before admiring the immense work of art, a homage by the hotel to Hungarian men and women whose artistic and scientific talents have contributed to the country's well-earned international renown: Franz Liszt, Béla Bartok, George Solti, Eva Marton, Joseph Pulitzer, Elie Wiesel, Imre Kertész, Robert Capa, Michael Curtiz, Paul Newman, Tony Curtis, etc. True to the city's traditions, the hotel is equipped with a wellness centre built around a superb Jacuzzi of turquoise blue mosaics.

The handsome parquet-floored rooms feature that distinctive, yet increasingly rare luxury, of uncluttered space, without for an instant forgoing any of the proverbial elegance or comfort sought by hotel guests. Some of the rooms, located in the hotel's tower, lead onto balconies adorned with finely worked wrought-iron railings. All the rooms boast lovely large windows that flood them in light. As you open the windows, the city's innumerable charms seem to entice you out into the streets. It is sheer bliss to explore this city, gazing up to admire its architectural splendours, smiling at the young, friendly inhabitants, sniffing the mouth-watering scents rising up from the terraces beneath shady trees on Franz Liszt Square, lingering in front of the enticing shop windows down Vaci Street, turning your face to the breeze off the fast-flowing Danube or pricking up your ear to catch the notes of the gypsy melody that seems to echo throughout the city. The city's countless bridges, both symbolic and real, are, without doubt, one of its highlights. Few cities in the world offer such an opportunity to easily sample the varying delights of a Baroque cathedral or a synagogue, an old-fashioned spa resort or mysterious marshlands, a "belle Epoque" café or Eastern spices. Chain Bridge is, rightfully so, a 3-star attraction, but visitors would also do well to take the time to cross over the faultlessly elegant Liberty Bridge, before heading back to the Best Western Premier Hotel Parlament, which is, after its own fashion, also a highly attractive bridge...

Best Western Premier Hotel Sonnenhof

In a forest of dragons, bears and wild horses...

In Bavaria, the region bordering the Czech Republic around the summit of the Grosser Arber offers a majestic setting for many traditions and myths amongst the oldest in Germany. Every Whit Monday since 1412, a procession of almost 1,000 horseback riders commemorate the story of a priest who managed to reach the hamlet of Steinbuhl escorted by courageous villagers from Bad Kötzting, to help a dying man. And Furt im Wald, which since the 15th century has celebrated the slaying of the dragon by Saint George. These traditions owe their strength to the character of these villages, the richness of their history, and the beauty of their landscapes.

The Best Western Premier Hotel Sonnenhof, built on the slopes of the village of Lam, from where one can hear the bell sounding the hour, represents the authenticity of its Art de Vivre in a spectacular natural setting, amongst the best preserved in Europe. The hotel takes its name from the exceptional sunshine it enjoys. It is situated in the Bavarian National Park, whose unbroken dense forest shelters bears, lynx, wolves, and wild horses. Its large windows afford, from all angles, sumptuous views of this landscape, the beauty and character of which have inspired every detail of the hotel. The restaurant menu places the emphasis on Bavarian cuisine, much more sophisticated and delicious than the traditional image of sausages and cabbage. The furnishing of the hotel in the traditional Bavarian style has been achieved using light wood, which is so abundant in the area. Superb handcrafted pieces represent the tradition of glass blowing, practised in this region for 3,000 years.

As well as these roots and the shared Art de Vivre, the Best Western Premier Hotel Sonnenhof is also an establishment of rare quality and irreproachable comfort. The calmness and purity of the air adds to the feeling of wellbeing that is felt by every guest as they pass through the doors of the hotel. The delightful surprise is that this chalet-style hotel is not rustic in the way many mountain establishments are and instead provides extremely sophisticated surroundings. Its furnishings and architecture have the elegance and brightness of the magnificent mansions where everyone feels special. This quality is particularly noticeable in the health spa where every detail and element of decoration combine to create an atmosphere of quality and perfect comfort. The hotel's 2 swimming pools are exceptionally large and are suitable for use all year round, even when the sides of the outdoor pool are covered with snow (a guaranteed thrill!). The rooms, many of which offer lovely south-facing terraces, are furnished with exquisite taste finding a happy balance between the privilege of elegance and a certain familiar warmth.

One can venture from the hotel by bike, on foot, on snowshoes, or on cross-country skis, feast one's eyes on the views, and breathe the exceptionally pure air in the largest area of forested mountain in Europe, which stretches from Bohemia to Upper Austria. Once back at the Best Western Premier Hotel Sonnenhof, whether taking a seat in the restaurant, letting go in the warm sun on the terraces, or diving into one of the pools, one can savour every marvellously relaxing moment.
