Originally, Roman Coliseum is called as 'Flavian Amphitheater," a huge building created during the ancient Roman Empire. The construction of the Coliseum was initiated by then Roman Emperor Vespasian in 70 A.D, the man behind the Flavian dynasty.
In addition, the completion of Roman coliseum was in 80 A.D. Emperor Vespasian did not live long enough to see the completion of the Coliseum. The Coliseum was opened to the public by Vespasian's successor Emperor Titus. It is reported that the inaugural ceremony of the Roman Coliseum lasted for a period of 100 days.
Lastly, the Coliseum has a 50,000 holding capacity. It was built with four floors. Each floor is 32 - 42 feet in height and the arena size if 79 x 45 meters wide. The term "arena" refers to "sand." The Coliseum's arena is made up of sand and wood.
