Ladakh is not only home to some of the most beautiful and serene monasteries, but also a land of rich natural beauty - and it's this natural beauty that seems incredible and irresistible.
Among the Lakes, Pangong Tso Lake is the most beautiful and grandest lake in Ladakh. There are accommodations near the lake in Lukung & Spangmik and one can stay overnight to enjoy this place even more. Camping is also possible near the lake. Then there are Tsa Kar and Tsa Moriri Lakes. A drive from Leh to Lamayuru along the Indus river can enable one to see the confluence of Indus and Zanskar on the way. Lamayuru is a beautiful place and is home to the oldest monastery and one of the most important places in Ladakh. One can stay in the monastery or in the village. Must-see sites also include the areas around Lamayuru on the Leh-Kargil highway.
There are some breathtaking valleys and amongst them The Nubra Valley, initially called Ldumbra Valley(Valley of Flowers) is the moat beautiful one. Nubra is the northernmost sub-division of Leh district. It's connected to Leh by Khardung La pass, the highest motorable pass in the world. It provides excellent views of Ladakh Range as well as Karakoram Range. Nubra Valley is a second favorite to tourists as a trip out of Leh.The valley is surrounded by barren mountains on all sides and is very wide. People do cultivation on both sides of the river. The combination of barren brown mountains, white water of the Nubra River which is a sub-tributary of the Indus, and the green fields appeals to and enchants many people.
Padum Valley, also one of the best valleys to visit. It is the capital of the ancient Zanskar Region and at present the administrative headquarter. Padum is a very scarcely inhabited region and a very famous trekking destination. Zanskar Valley, being one of the remotest regions of the Ladakh, is only accessible through high passes. This valley is higher than any other valley in Ladakh region and located in the Inner Himalayas. This region receives very less rainfall and the climate is harsh too.
Amongst the palaces, the Leh Palace is a great place to visit. Built in the 17th century for King Singge Namgyal, it was the residence of the Ladakhi royal family. It also houses the Indian Archeological Conservation Organisation's Ladakh office. Another palace is the Stok Palace located on a glacial deposit and overlooking barley terrace fields. The Stok Palace was the official residence of the royal family of Ladakh and was constructed by Ladakh's last ruler. The museum at the Stok Palace has an fascinating collection of Buddhist art, weapons, jewelery and artifacts. The palace houses collections of thangkas that have been painted with colors made by crushung precious stones.
Other popular places of tourist interest include Drass valley, Markha Valley, Shayok Valley, Salt Valley, Indus valley, Suru valley, Kargil, Zangla, Stongdey, Rangdum, , Phukthal, Sankoo, Sani Monastery, along with other innumerable Monasteries. Though the hotels and tour operators provide the tourists with many more visit packages which include connecting different places to visit in a comprehensive tour of the Ladakh region, the tourists can themselves chalk out their trips with the help from hotel guides and maps that are easily available. Some deluxe and luxury hotels even provide detailed maps and ready-to-use itineraries for tourists who do not wish to go through tour operators or travel agents.
