Ever wonder what makes the top Orlando Villa Google results so popular?
We did.
So we did a search, recorded the results, and decided to rate them all according to the same criteria:
Overall attractiveness and extras
Was it easy to navigate?
Was it easy to find and view properties? Was it easy to check availability and pricing?
Was there a good selection of properties?
We gave each category a score from 1 to 10, for a total possible web site score of 50. What we found surprised us... most of the sites did not fare as well as we expected for a top 10 Google search result.
Here they are in the order Google ranked them.
1. Orlando Villas: Score 36/50
OrlandoVillas.com
Overall attractiveness and extras: ...6 Our sample property offered a high chair, and grocery welcome packs offered for additional price
Was it easy to navigate? ...7 The site was a little busy looking, but easy to navigate.
Was it easy to find and view properties? ...8 One of the best sites we reviewed for finding properties. limited selection, but easy to view.
Was it easy to check availability and pricing?...8 Extremely easy, all prices listed online.
Was there a good selection of properties? ...7 This is a closed site, so the number of properties is fairly small, but manageable.
2. Last Minute Villas Score: 31/50
LastMinuteVillas.net
Overall attractiveness and extras:...5. Very busy site, small print, this is a website created by techies, not marketers or salespeople.
Was it easy to navigate? ...4 Poor. The irony is that this site has GREAT CONTENT. Useful articles, a ring of related sites, this site's owners obviously care about rental experience. But visitors have to work to use this site.
Was it easy to find and view properties? ...7. We gave a 7 for this, despite the security measures the website forces the visitor to go through, since we suspect nearly everyone just clicks the big "Available Right Now" picture in the top left of the main screen.
Was it easy to check availability and pricing? ...7. We mistyped the security code on the Inquiry page, and got the following message "You must prove that you are a human by entering the code that appears in the image below. PLEASE NOTE: The security code is case-sensitive." Yikes.
Was there a good selection of properties? ...8. By coming close to the hotel model of showing properties available now/soon, the site has made the experience convenient, and the selection is pretty good. The homes are pretty, too.
HIGHEST SCORE!!! 3. All Star Vacations Score: 39/50
AllStarVacationHomes.com
Overall attractiveness and extras... 8. We found this to be one of the most attractive sites we reviewed.
Was it easy to navigate?... 8. Take a moment to look at the categories on the right-hand side, then choose the price range from the drop-down on the right. (this would be easier if the right-to-left order was reversed)
Was it easy to find and view properties?... 7. Remember the rating scale, and this is easy.
Was it easy to check availability and pricing?... 8. Instant Quote option was impressive. Super easy, very convenient.
Was there a good selection of properties?...8 Lots of properties, from lots of owners. We were impressed with the selection.
4. Goin 2 Travel Score: 28/50
Goin2Travel.com/orlandorentals.htm
Overall attractiveness and extras ...4. Tis site is very spare, and has sort of an empty feel to it.
Was it easy to navigate? ...7. Very easy to navigate, because there is so little on the site.
Was it easy to find and view properties? ...6. Similar to other sites, qualifications are by price or number of bedrooms.
Was it easy to check availability. and pricing? ...6. There is no pricing online, you need to send email via webform to property owner(s).
Was there a good selection of properties? ...5. A decent selection, neither great or poor.
5. More Mouse Score: 24/50
MoreMouse.com
Overall attractiveness and extras... 8. Sort of generic, but nothing obviously terrible. It starts to grow on you.
Was it easy to navigate? ... 6. Not bad, but has a webmaster/techie feel to it.
Was it easy to find and view properties? ...4. It works fine, but you need to know the name of the subdivision you're interested in. We find this ridiculous... a little extra legwork and they could have made this MUCH more user-friendly. My guess is, they lose a lot of prospective customers at this step.
Was it easy to check availability? ... 2. We weren't sure, at the point where the site wanted to collect our information, whether the property was available or not. Also, there was a 628-word Reservation Agreement stating things like mandatory damage liability charges for every reservation. No mention of how much this would actually cost. Combined with the difficult search process, we doubt we would use this site as our first choice.
Good selection of properties? ...7. There were lots of properties to choose from.
6. Orlando Villa Owners... 20/50
OrlandoVillaOwners.com
Overall attractiveness and Extras... 5. This one was fine, neither great or terrible.
Was it easy to navigate? ... 6. The Search section is on the main page, and some featured properties are clickable immediately.
Was it easy to find and view properties? ...4 . Similar to moremouse.com (are they the same site, or maybe they use/copy the same search options?). In other words, you need to know the differences between different subdivisions. If you don't you're out of luck.
Was it easy to check availability and pricing? ...4. Sort of. You need to fill out a long form, and get an emailed response within 24 hours. We did start getting responses fairly quickly, though.
Was there a good selection of properties?...1 Unknown. Multiple owners contacted us. Most didn't convince us with their emails. In fact, most of the emails seemed like they were describing the same house.
7. Orlando Vacation ...33/50
Orlandovacation.com
Overall attractiveness and extras...6 Decent professional look to the site.
Was it easy to navigate? ...7. This site sells hotel rooms, vacation rentals, and vacation packages, so the search was simple.
Was it easy to find and view properties? ...6 The selection was limited to a few subdivisions and resorts, but the details were good.
Was it easy to check availability and pricing? ....7 Oh yes, with prices prominently displayed. This site would have merited an 8 if it didn't force us to do the math... while other sites show you your total price up front (exclusive of taxes, etc.) this one displays pricing by night, and you have to do the multiplication. It makes the prices look lower initially, so watch out.
Was there a good selection of properties? ...7 The Good: lots of options, from condos to houses. The Bad: We didn't see an obvious way to filter out the condos and townhomes. If we wanted to share walls with strangers, we'd consider hotels.
8. Windsor Palms: Score 28/50
windsorpalmsflorida.com
Overall attractiveness and extras ...5 A bit bland, with a color scheme that doesn't seem aimed at making it easy to read.
Was it easy to navigate? ...5 Simple options, easy enough to navigate
Was it easy to find and view properties? ...5 It does offer a general inquiry for last minute searches, but for regular searches it requires you to play the subdivision game of knowing where different subdivisions are located.
Was it easy to check availability and pricing?... 6 Rate information availability seemed to be missing for some properties, but overall it is available. Property availability was poor to fair... required an email response.
Was there a good selection of properties?...7 As good as most of the other sites, but no better.
9. Vamoose Score: 36/50
http://www.vamoose.com/orlando-vacation-rentals.htm
Overall attractiveness and extras...5 We liked it. Not much more to say.
Was it easy to navigate? ...8 Simple, Simple, Simple. Among he best we saw.
Was it easy to find and view properties?...7 Similar to realtor.com, lots of properties and on-the-fly search option changes are easy.
Was it easy to check availability and pricing?...8 Prices are prominently displayed (in ranges).
Was there a good selection of properties?...8 Lots of properties, and the site offers a chance to search by amenities as well.
10. Disney Condo Score: 23/50
http://www.disneycondo.com
Overall attractiveness and extras...6 Very busy site. Repeats a lot of words and phrases, probably to rank higher in Google.
Was it easy to navigate?...5 Hard to believe, to even start looking for a property you have to scroll down the page and read the blue-on-blue-green buttons.
Was it easy to find and view properties?...5 This site doesn't seem to have visitors in mind. The Search options are buttons on the left side of the page, and there's no way to filter the search for location.
Was it easy to check availability and pricing?...5 Prices are not listed with the properties. Instead, there is a Rate Page with nearly 100 options in it.
Was there a good selection of properties?...2 Extremely limited number of properties.
