UNESCO has passed a resolution guaranteeing the organization’s participation in a major ceremony marking the 1,000th anniversary of Hanoi in October this year, the Hanoi People’s Committee said. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked the Hanoi People’s Committee and the UNESCO National Committee in Vietnam to seek UNESCO’s support for the event. Alongside the resolution on the anniversary, Vietnam has also been elected to the UNESCO executive council for the 2009-2013 term. Reported by Nguyen Viet Chien
