Pokhara is the second-largest city in Nepal after Kathmandu, the country's capital. Pokhara's popularity arises from its close proximity to the Annapurna Circuit and the Annapurna Sanctuary. There are actually numerous activities to enjoy when visiting Pokhara in Nepal. Pokhara travel is easy and fairly convenient and getting around the city can be accomplished in a number of affordable ways. The excellent bus and air connections into the Pokhara Valley are the easiest ways to approach the city. They are more popular than overland routes because of the often security-laced roads known to tie up a lot of travel time.

Pokhara in Nepal presents a much warmer and tropical feel than Kathmandu because of the lower elevation level. Pokhara was once in the center of a busy trade route spanning between Tibet and India. Mule trains are still a common sight and are used to bring trading goods into the more remote points in the Himalayas. The most prominent ethnic groups encountered during Pokhara travel are the Thakalis, the Gurungs, and the Magars.

Pokhara is somewhat like a smaller version of Kathmandu, minus the heavy buzz of activity permeating throughout the capital. Though Pokhara travel isn't really popular because of the city attractions, the city is still greatly important because of the many outdoor adventures available. It is the adventure capital of Nepal in no uncertain terms. Pokhara in Nepal is set in a plunging valley, enveloped by towering mountains, and sitting on the Seti River banks. The animated backdrop of Phewa Lake makes it a fun place to hang out. It's full of dining options in the form of cafes, restaurants, and open-air eateries. There are plenty of bars around the lake, too, great for grabbing a cold drink and talking to other trekkers. It's a great place to get advice from seasoned mountain climbers, for meeting like-minded people on the road, and for swapping a few good stories.

Adventure activities are easily the most attractive part of Pokhara and appeal to adventure seekers, who comprise a large chunk of annual tourism in the Nepal. Microflights are a notable way in which to see the surrounding mountains and panorama and make Pokhara travel extra exciting. Jungle safaris are another of the top things to do in Pokhara. Jungle tours generally always include a look at the surrounding areas including Kathmandu, Chitwan National Park, and Pokhara in Nepal. Sarangkot Lookout Point is the most ideal for the best valley views but it's most renowned as an advantageous paragliding point. Paragliding off Sarangkot is one of the best and most exhilarating pursuits for thrill seekers.

Finding accommodation in Pokhara is much easier than many other far-flung Nepali areas. There are loads of hotels to choose from, from basic guesthouses and inns to top luxury hotels. There are plenty of budget and mid-range options, yet only a handful of four- and five-star hotels. With a six-hour trip between Pokhara and Kathmandu, a lot of travelers opt for a bus route. Tourist buses, albeit a little more expensive, are still the best way to travel and the least hassles along the way. There are plenty of travel times to choose from but note that night buses only travel when there is little known activity among Maoist rebels.
