The Princess Huyen Tran Cultural Center is located about seven kilometers from Hue City Vietnam at Ngu Phong Mountain, Ngu Tay Hamlet, Thuy An Commune. The cultural center covers a total area of 28 hectares in a beautiful location facing mountains, hills and pipe tree forests.
The center draws many visitors since this destination is not simply a tourism attraction but also a spiritual place for Hue’s people and tourists, who come here to honor the talented and beautiful princess from the Tran Dynasty in recognition of her contribution to the expansion of the territory of Vietnam.
In the mountainous area of Ngu Phong, visitors can contemplate quietly and burn incense to commemorate and reminisce about a phase in the nation’s history.
In the summer of 1306, the beautiful Princess Huyen Tran agreed to marry King Che Man of Champa, at the request of her father. In return, King Che Man gave Vietnam two cities, O and Ly, as a betrothal gift.
King Che Man passed away a year later and according to the custom in Champa, his Queen, Tran Huyen Tran, was to be burnt alive. However, her family rescued her and she returned to Thang Long Capital.
Since then the people of Vietnam have celebrated her sacrifice for the nation. A shrine in Lich Doi Village to Princess Huyen Tran and other meritorious officials dates back to the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945).
There are temples to Princess Huyen Tran in Yen Tu, Quang Ninh Province, Gia Vien in Ninh Binh Province, Nam Dinh City and her name has been given to main streets in Hue City, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam.
Princess Huyen Tran has a special significance to the people of Hue who consider the marriage between the Princess and King Che Man 700 years ago as the landmark of the birth of this land.
The cultural center of Princess Huyen Tran was begun in early 2006 and was completed at the end of March, 2007 by Huong Giang Tourist Co. with a total investment of about 6.8bil dong.
The investors believe this center serves as an attractive destination which combines historic Chin Ham relics with the ecological area “Returning to the root - Thuy An eco tourism, cultural and historical center” of Huong Giang Tourist Co.
After visiting the temple of Princess Huyen Tran, visitors can climb to the peak of Ngu Phung Mountain, at a height of 108 meters above sea level to see the Hoa Binh bell tower. The bell weighs 1.6 tons, is 1.6 meters high and 1.26 meters in diameter at the mouth.
In the future, Huyen Tran cultural center will have a library to store documents about King Tran Nhan Tong and King Tran Anh Tong, Princess Huyen Tran and heroes of the Tran Dynasty. Huong Giang Tourist Co. is also planning to build a zen house, calligraphy house and orchid showroom.
The tour to Huyen Tran Cultural Center from Hue City for a group of 15 persons or more is priced at VND63,000 per person, which includes transportation and a tour guide.
