A site blessed by the Gods
The forest of Teutoburg is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic sites of German history and mythology. It was here that Arminius defied three Roman legions in an epic battle, thereby putting an end to the rule of Rome, east of the Rhine. This event was largely responsible for the many Nordic legends that grew up in this region. The forest of hundred-year-old oak and beech trees, a paradise of unspoilt nature, provides the perfect backdrop to heroic gestures. The Externsteine, an astronomical observatory and ceremonial site for 4000 years, contributes to making it a genuine sanctuary. The 30-metre high sandstone monoliths, overlooking a small lake, have fascinated and intrigued mankind since time immemorial.

Two saline sources rise at Bad Lippspringe (rightfully christened "Arminius" and "Liborius", after whom Paderborn Cathedral is also named), renowned for their health-giving properties for pulmonary diseases.
