Tasmania
It is a true paradise of nature and breathtaking landscapes. Tasmania is a natural island, a place of dramatic coastlines, rugged mountains, tall forests and sparkling highland lakes. There are plenty of National Parks all over Tasmania, offering fabulous scenery, great walking trails and various outdoor activities. Waterfalls are also popular in Tasmania, including the beautiful Russell Falls. It is an island with a fascinating heritage, dramatic and beautiful landscapes, a spectacular wilderness full of wildlife and wildflowers and home to an array of quality accommodation and wonderful food and wine. It is also home to one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world, known as Wineglass Bay.
Wineglass Bay
It is situated on the rugged Freycinet Peninsula and is a part of the French National Park, on the east coast of Tasmania. The Freycinet National Park is crowded with forests, wildflowers (including orchids) and native wildlife. The Peninsula is made up of granite mountains that sweep down to the sparkling vivid blue coves, the most beautiful of which is Wineglass Bay, so called because of its perfect shape. The bay's perfect curve of white sand, and the blue sea and skies form a stunning picture. Wineglass Bay is a natural wonder and one of the most beautiful coastline in Tasmania. Wineglass Bay is considered to be one of the 10 best beaches of the world.
Wineglass Bay is a wonderful surprise when you climb over the saddle in the Hazards - the jagged range of pink and gray granite peaks on the east coast peninsula that is the Freycinet National Park. The peninsula enjoys some of the most beautiful coastline in Tasmania and a pleasantly mild climate. Coles Bay, at the north of the park, is a deep inlet with an imposing backdrop of three pink granite rocks, known as The Hazards, that rise straight from the sea to 300 m high. Coles Bay makes a good base for visiting the national park, although it is possible to stay within the park itself.
There are many walking trails to be explored around the area but there is very little drinking water, so you will need to carry plenty of drinking water with yourself. Walks start from the car park, and from there up to the lookout point over Wineglass bay, and down to the beach and back could take as long as five hours. Another, lovely, way of seeing the bay is to take an organized cruise or hire a boat from Coles Bay, and approach it from the sea. A visit to Tasmania is incomplete without enjoying the beauty of Wineglass Bay. In 1999 the American travel magazine 'Outside' voted Wineglass Bay one of the top ten beaches in the world.
